Daily Journal: How did you prepare and train to become a neutral?

Kay: Twenty-five years on the bench, including five years on the Court of Appeal, teaches one to listen to all sides of an argument and to respect differing points of view. I also created the first pro bono mediation program for the San Francisco Probate Court and, in that connection, took a mediation course from Steve Rosenberg, which was very helpful.
