$6B suit over NFL broadcast licensing will head to trial, judge rules

The case is scheduled for a February trial before U.S. District Judge Phillip S. Gutierrez, who ruled: “The court finds that plaintiffs proffered sufficient evidence to raise a dispute of fact as to whether the provisions in each of the three agreements — Teams-NFL, NFL-Network, and DirecTV-NFL — result in DirecTV’s monopoly of out-of-market telecasts, and to show DirecTV’s conscious commitment to the alleged conspiracy.”

A federal judge on Thursday denied summary judgment to the National Football League in a $6 billion multidistrict antitrust litigation that involves out-of-market licensing agreements for the league’s “Sunday Ticket” broadcast package.

The case is scheduled to go to trial next month before U.S. District Judge Phillip S. Gutierrez.
