California Supreme Court strikes wide-reaching tax reform initiative from November 2024 ballot

The California State Legislature and the Office of the Governor successfully challenged a ballot initiative that would have imposed substantial barriers to State and local governments’ ability to raise taxes and fees. The California Supreme Court ruled that the Act would have fundamentally restructured the most basic of governmental powers and stripped the Legislature of the authority to raise revenues.
