The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Thursday it will no longer count veterans' disability benefits as income when assessing their eligibility for housing assistance.
The change comes as officials from HUD and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs face a federal class action accusing them of failing to adequately support veterans with mental disabilities at the West Los Angeles VA campus. That trial commenced Tuesday.
