Doctors Paid To Aid In Disability Denials
Second in a two-part series. Millions of Americans seeking to buy a safety net for their middle class lifestyles enroll in group disability insurance. But legally denying these costly claims has proven easy for insurers.
Correction
An earlier version of this story reported that MLS Group of Companies, Inc., a firm which provides medical opinions for disability insurers, required physicians to dictate reports by telephone to the company. The company furnishes transcriptions at no charge, according to court records, but doctors may instead pay to have their reports transcribed elsewhere. The company did not return two calls for comment prior to the article?s publication. evan_george@dailyjournal.com
