American Arbitration Association, Judicate West Laguna Hills Specialties: labor and employment

Reinglass honed her bedside manner working with clients on emotional cases as a labor and employment litigator for 30 years before realizing that she could use that talent on both sides of a negotiation as a neutral. Although her claim to fame is as a specialist in that area, she also works on commercial disputes and civil rights issues.

"Anything that has emotional components, people have brought those to me regardless of the subject matter," she said.

She recently helped resolve a complex insurance case involving an on-the-job auto accident with a related lien brought by a medical provider who conducted a back surgery after the fact.

Reinglass said the deal was mostly completed but the plaintiff was frozen by the fear of making a mistake.

"We had the personal injury and the lien settled, but we couldn't finalize," she said.

She put in extra time with the plaintiff and the deal eventually resolved.

In another case involving a sexual harassment allegation, Reinglass worked slowly and patiently with the plaintiff, making her comfortable with the process, before addressing the weaknesses in her case. She said the plaintiff was grateful in the long run with how she handled the negotiation.

"She said, 'You eased me in so I could handle the bad stuff. I was really shocked when you finally said the bad stuff because you had been so nice, but I could handle it then and it made sense.'"

The case was settled quickly after that conversation.
