The Honorable Gretchen W. Taylor is a retired Superior Court Commissioner with 12 years experience as a Family Law Judge in Los Angeles and Riverside Counties. She retired from the bench in 2009 and has since focused exclusively on providing lawyers, their clients, parents and individuals with an array of mediation and private judging services. She is a California State Bar Certified Specialist in Family Law since 1991. Prior to being appointed to the bench she practiced Family Law in Beverly Hills for 18 years. Her full time practice of mediation of Family Law disputes is highly regarded. Her agility with all issues give her clients, attorneys and litigants alike, the confidence that their own solution will become apparent under her guidance. The dispute will almost always resolve with her neutral, balanced and intelligent approach. Judge Taylor is committed to the understanding based model of mediation. This style of mediation encourages each side to brainstorm potential solutions with expert guidance provided by the mediator and counsel and experts if needed. Previously unnoticed answers reveal themselves, leading to agreement with lasting outcomes. Mediation is not 'one size fits all'. Judge Taylor works in a collaborative, consultative, advisory, or directive manner and may use all modalities within one mediation case. She has a high settlement success rate, well over 90%. She is comfortable with complex balance sheet tracings, tax and valuation issues, support and cash available for support questions. Disability concerns, mental health and brain disorders, alcohol and drug addiction, child development and parenting plan models are all issues she brings extensive experience and knowledge to.
