The incoming director of the state courts agency has chosen two interim executives to stay on as two of its three top managers in a reorganized structure recommended as part of reform efforts.
Steven Jahr chose Interim Administrative Director of the Courts Jody Patel and Interim Chief Deputy Director Curt Soderlund to stay on in new roles with the Administrative Office of the Courts as chief of staff and chief administrative officer.
Curt Child, currently the director of the office of governmental affairs and head lobbyist for the judicial branch, will be chief operating officer.
Under the restructuring plan, the agency's executive office will be reduced from 14 positions to four by Oct. 1, including Jahr, Patel, Soderlund and Child. Jahr will assume his position as director Oct. 9.
Patel, who previously served as the agency's regional administrative director, replaced previous interim director Ronald Overholt when he resigned in February and was originally only a temporary replacement. Patel said she is "excited" to stay on as chief of staff. Over the past few months, she has been involved in working to provide input to the Judicial Council regarding changes to the agency recommended by the council's Strategic Evaluation Committee.
"I appreciate the confidence that Judge Jahr and the chief justice have placed in me to continue to make a positive contribution in realigning the AOC," Patel said.
Soderlund, who has served as director of the agency's Trial Court Administrative Services Division since 2008 and will continue to do so with his new role, said he's "flattered" by Jahr's decision to keep him on as an executive officer.
"Obviously, Jody and I have been real busy in the last seven months, and there's a lot of work left to do," Soderlund said, "and I think I'm in a good position to help Judge Jahr." href="mailto:
