What prompted you to go into ADR? As an AV rated trial lawyer with over 60 trials, and observing firsthand the toll litigation takes on people and business, the process of assisting parties in dispute resolution became a natural transition. By focusing people on these risks and costs, rather on their anger or pain, I move the parties to closure.

Most difficult case: Resolving $1.2 billion in medical device cases one person at a time throughout the USA.

One piece of advice for new ADR professionals: Stay calm and keep them talking...

One thing that really ticks you off in the middle of a mediation/arbitration session: Artificial restrictions on time, lack of preparation, and the belief that hostility or competitiveness secures a better outcome than frank communication. There is a process at work that succeeds when it is not shortchanged. Lawyers and clients should keep their calendar clear so the process is free to continue until the mediator declares resolution or impact.
