During her tenure as a Sacramento County Superior Court judge from 1980 to 2000, she helped create and direct the Civil Settlement Conference Program, which utilized volunteer attorneys and a supervising judge to resolve cases.
"At the time I was a judge, I was committed to the idea that parties are better served if they can resolve their cases on their own," Bond said. "People are more invested in the outcome than if the decisions are imposed by a court or a jury."
She said the program settled up to 98 percent of the civil cases that came through it.
Bond works on a variety of cases in different subject areas, including labor and employment, civil rights, elder abuse, agricultural disputes and probate and estate matters. She said she has seen an uptick in employment-related disputes and matters regarding business contracts, though she enjoys the wide variety of work that comes across her path.
She said her experience as a judge helps her understand all aspects of a trial and allows her to connect with her clients when they want to avoid litigation.
"I know what it's like to be in court and I know all the kinds of things that can get thrown into a trial," she said. "I try to find something both sides can agree on that will resolve a case in a way [the parties] will be satisfied."
