Brown, Groban should be commended

The March 2 story on Gov. Jerry Brown's judicial appointments, "Brown's judge picks made bench more diverse," showed that statistics can tell whatever story the author so desires. So why not tell an inspiring one? To that end, 14.7 percent of the appointments made in 2017 were Hispanic (as reported by the Governor's Office press release issued March 1). Gov. Brown and his appointment secretary, Josh Groban, should be commended for appointing Hispanic jurists at nearly double the rate they found upon taking office in 2011. As president of the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County, I can assure you, those appointments will have a great impact on the judiciary, as opposed to the "limited" one some may believe.
