The city of Huntington Beach has reached a tentative settlement with California over a lawsuit filed against the city about its affordable housing law compliance.
The settlement relies on a proposed amendment to Huntington Beach's housing plan that would bring the city into compliance with a new law, according to a letter from the state Department of Housing and Community Development sent to the city Friday. Huntington Beach needs to adopt the change by March for the settlement to stand.
Huntington Beach's city council will review the proposal in February, according to a statement from the city Friday.
This lawsuit is the first one the state government has filed under a 2018 l allowing such litigation.
In the suit, the state accused Huntington Beach of creating an in-compliance housing plan and then drastically cutting the amount of affordable housing.
