Employment attorneys have a choice: Represent management or workers, Lazerson believes. For her, it's management.
"I like to think that employers want to do the right thing," Lazerson said. "I went into the law so I could make the world a better place. By representing employers, I can make sure they're complying with all the laws."
Along with litigation, Lazerson advises employers and conduct investigations. She also works to guard her clients against frivolous complaints. "Where there are meritorious claims, I'm also in a position to advise them to do the right thing."
Last year, Lazerson represented the U.S. subsidiary of one of China's largest real estate developers as the defendant in a case that involved allegations of sexual harassment by the CEO, and conspiracy to cover it up. Some of the witnesses were in China.
"We had interpreters. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture. It was a really interesting, inter-cultural experience."
Ultimately, the allegations didn't hold up and the case was settled in July 2019, on the even of trial, Lazerson said.
Lazerson pointed out how important a single deposition can be in a case. In April 2019, she represented the defendant in a wrongful termination case where a former employee alleged discrimination and whistleblower retaliation.
After taking a deposition, Lazerson obtained a voluntary dismissal with prejudice in favor of her client.
