Girardi Keese owes more than $101M, trustee says

According to the court document, Girardi Keese’s assets amount to $4,130,773, while the firm owes $101,007,652.

Girardi Keese owes more than $101 million to creditors, according to a trustee overseeing the involuntary bankruptcy of the defunct law firm.

Elissa D. Miller of SulmeyerKupetz filed the summary of assets and liabilities late on Tuesday. According to the court document, Girardi Keese's assets amount to $4,130,773, while the firm owes $101,007,652.

The debts include $7.8 million to KCC Class Action Services LLC and $6.6 million to California Attorney Lending II Inc. The list also includes former clients and law firms that have alleged Thomas V. Girardi stole money from them. One law firm in New York claims Girardi owes more than $8.5 million.

Given the state of disarray at the law firm's office, the numbers could change, Miller wrote in court documents.

"Financial records (bank statements, invoices, tax returns, and other financial records) and other mail and papers were piled high on each and every flat surface and in no discernible order," the summary stated. "Much of what the trustee found upon her appointment was very dated."
