Jan 6 set for consideration of recent Court of Appeal nominees
California's Commission on Judicial Appointments has set an unusually early date, Jan. 6, for the live video conference consideration of two Court of Appeal nominees.
Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Laurie Earl was nominated only Monday by Gov. Gavin Newsom for the vacant seat on the 3rd District Court of Appeal. The court has been criticized by appellate attorneys over the past year for slow issuance of decisions that have adversely affected criminal and civil case clients.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Maurice Sanchez was nominated on Nov. 10 for the 4th District Court of Appeal.
The broadcast is scheduled to begin with Sanchez's hearing at 10 a.m., followed by Earl's at 10:45 a.m.
The commission members are: Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye and Attorney General Rob Bonta, plus 4th District Presiding Justice Manuel A. Ramirez for Sanchez's hearing and 3rd District Presiding Justice Vance W. Raye for Earl's hearing.
