Hon. Richard D. Aldrich (Ret.) joined JAMS as a neutral mediator and arbitrator in June 2017. He handles mediations and arbitrations in many fields, including business, professional liability (both legal and medical malpractice), contracts, real estate, construction defect and employment.

Justice Aldrich was elevated to the California Court of Appeal in 1994, where he served until June 2017. During his time on the bench, he was instrumental in inaugurating the Second District Court of Appeal Settlement Conference and Mediation Program.

From 1991 to 1993, he served on the Ventura County Superior Court, where he inaugurated Ventura's Multi-Door Courthouse Early Dispute Resolution Program and served as chair of the Dispute Resolution Program for the Ventura County courts.

Justice Aldrich was honored by Best Lawyers in America in 1986, 1997 and 1998, was named Outstanding Jurist of the Year by the Ventura County Bar Association in 1992 and 1993, received the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates in 1990, was the recipient of the Roger J. Traynor Appellate Justice of the Year Award in 2000, and was selected as Jurist of the Year Award by the California Judicial Council.

Prior to joining the bench, Justice Aldrich enjoyed a 28-year career as a trial attorney.
