Sherman Oaks • Personal Injury

Arash Homampour's legal practice centers on what he calls "underdog litigation," where individual clients take on large entities, industries or manufacturers to challenge unlawful or unsafe practices for the betterment of the community.

One of the notable cases as lead counsel was against a major local utility, which resulted in a landmark $38 million settlement. Tejada, et al. v. Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, 21STCV14634 (L.A. Sup. Ct., filed April 16, 2021).

The case involved a tragic incident where a husband and daughter were electrocuted by a powerline due to LADWP's equipment failure and negligent maintenance. As a result of this case, LADWP has undertaken significant safety measures, including an overhaul of its power pole inspection program and an extensive public safety campaign.

Another significant case involved securing a $60 million verdict, along with an additional $30 million in CCP 998 interest. This case was particularly challenging due to complex medical causation issues and the defense's strong opposition. Despite these obstacles, the jury found the defendant liable for the secondary injury suffered by the plaintiff's wife, marking a significant achievement in medical causation cases. O'Malley v. Diamond Resort, et al., 30-2015-00771021 (O.C. Sup. Ct., filed Feb. 10, 2015).

"The O'Malley v. Diamond case exemplifies the David v. Goliath power of lawyers championing the righteous cause of ordinary citizens against megacorporations and their army of lawyers and highly qualified experts who try to trample and belittle their opponents, but fail miserably," Homampour said.

He continued: "We faced an exceptionally skilled and highly financed defense team backed by top-tier experts who attempted to discredit our entire case. They particularly attacked our medical causation theory (which established that the delay in treating the AComm aneurysm burst was what caused plaintiff's severe anterior grade amnesia and not the initial burst itself.) The defense took the aggressive position that it was not only false, but fabricated."

Looking ahead, Homampour also recognizes the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence in the legal field.

"Clearly, lawyers from both plaintiff and defense sides need to leverage artificial intelligence not just as a supplementary tool for data analysis, but also as a means to elucidate complex issues for judges and juries," he said.

Beyond his legal work, Homampour founded the "There is a Light Foundation," a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and grants to individuals striving to improve their lives.
