Mixed reactions to Newsom's order on encampments

Thursday's order directs state agencies to draft protocols for removing homeless encampments, relying on the U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling in Grants Pass.

Reactions to Gov. Gavin Newsom's executive order directing state agencies to remove homeless encampments were largely predictable: Advocates for homeless residents forcefully denounced the order as a disingenuous election-year play while elected officials praised it.

"Unfortunately, it's easier to clear an encampment than it is to build housing," said Shayla R. Myers, a senior attorney at Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles.
