Robert E. Horton, general counsel at MuleSoft Inc., has tried to align his career with the evolution of enterprise software.

Horton’s first in-house job was at Borland Software during the dot-com boom. Then, during what he called the high-definition revolution, he took over the legal and human resources teams at BigBand Networks, which manufactured and sold digital video and data processing products and services.
