SAN FRANCISCO — Judge Michelle Tong’s understanding of human behavior is the through line between her judicial philosophy and her career as a trial attorney for the San Francisco County public defender.

Before being elected to the Superior Court on March 3, 2020 and being assigned to the small claims division, Tong spent 17 years as a deputy public defender, 12 of which were spent trying cases.
