SAN DIEGO — There are three major societal changes that Judge Patricia Garcia has discerned in what she considers her area of interest and expertise — family law — first as a lawyer and later on the bench.

“The marriages are not as long,” she noted. “When I started in practice, you would see long marriages of 30 or 40 years. Not anymore.”
