      LOS ANGELES - Janet Slick was 16 and very nervous the first time she went to court.
      She was summoned to a Long Beach traffic court for a stop-sign violation. Her father took the day off work to appear with her.
      "I don't know who I was more afraid of - the judge or my dad," Slick said with a smile.
