COMPTON - Joel M. Wallenstein has, at one time or another, filled most roles in criminal court.
He worked alongside bench officers as a judicial assistant in the 1980s. He appeared before judges as a deputy public defender in the 1990s. And for more than 15 years, he's sat on the bench himself as a referee, commissioner and, most recently, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.
