      INDIO - One summer between college classes, Gregory J. Olson lived and worked aboard an Alaskan ship on the Bering Sea as part of a crew charged with gutting, scaling and packing salmon bound for Japan and Korea. At night, he bunked in cramped quarters with nine other men.
