LOS ANGELES - When Judge Joseph R. Porras was sworn onto the bench in 2012, he completed a one-generation rise that is the stuff of American dreams.
Porras' dad, Lupe, whom he speaks of affectionately at every turn as a charmer who can "talk to anybody," worked as a janitor for the Orange County Superior Court.
