LANCASTER - Judge Akemi Arakaki grew up an only child. But she spent most of her childhood in the care of a babysitter and as a companion to the sitters' seven children, since Arakaki's own parents were "workaholics" who often worked 12- and 13-hour days.
By the time she was a teenager, she found herself hanging out with the wrong crowd.
