SAN DIEGO - Judge Christine V. Pate has retired, ending a 20-year career with the Superior Court.
      Although Pate, 64, officially stepped down Tuesday, she used accrued vacation time to jump-start her retirement a couple of weeks ago, according to Karen Dalton, the court's representative.
