LONG BEACH — At the tender age of 12 months, an infant Mark Kim was shipped off by his parents to South Korea to live with his maternal grandmother as his folks established a family business in Santa Cruz.
He saw his mother and father once a year until he returned to the U.S. at 10. Kim couldn't speak a word of English.
