      OXNARD - Ventura County Superior Court Judge Manuel J. Covarrubias always will remember how one teacher helped shape his life.
      "I was taking algebra in junior high school and doing well," Covarrubias said. "But when I moved into high school I was placed in a basic math class where students were learning to add and subtract."
