      REDWOOD CITY - San Mateo County Superior Court Judge H. James Ellis walks with a precise military gait that seems not so much steadied as it is distinguished by a cane.
      The walking stick as well as a slight limp are the legacies of taking two Viet Cong bullets during a fierce battle in a South Vietnam bunker complex in 1966.
