FREMONT - A young woman with a history of misdemeanor drug offenses was recently
standing before Alameda County Superior Court Judge Richard Keller hoping for a chance
to avoid jail time and get clean.
Her attorney asked Keller to defer her sentencing to see if she could succeed in a
residential drug treatment program. The deputy district attorney disagreed.
