FAIRFIELD — Robert Q. Warshawsky thinks often about his path to the bench.

The commissioner said he was not keen on college and wanted to work with his hands after he graduated from high school. He got a factory job in East Los Angeles and then moved to Israel for a year to learn about industrial arts. He landed a job as a welder in Berkeley upon returning to the states.
