LONG BEACH — Judge Jennifer Cops might not have had much family law experience when she first donned the robe, but she did grow up surrounded by teachers.

Her mother was a teacher; her aunts and grandmother were teachers. Everyone in the family celebrated the importance of education, Cops said.
