Judge Daniel M. Crowley was running overtime. It was a warm, blue-skied February afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, but inside the Spring Street Courthouse where Crowley was presiding over hearings in several personal injury cases, the mood was somber. Standing before Crowley were two pro per litigants, one of whom was crying, while two attorneys waited in the gallery to present their cases. But Crowley didn't seem to rush.
