VAN NUYS -- At the end of 2018, David Yaroslavsky's mother unexpectedly died. A few days later, he found out he would become a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge at 36.

"The timing was such that I wasn't happy about the appointment," said Yaroslavsky. "It diminished to some degree the grieving because it happened so close in time. It was a difficult set of emotions to navigate."
