SAN DIEGO -- Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil acknowledges his model for resolving discovery disputes is not for the faint of heart.

"It involves a tremendous amount of work," he said. "Discovery can be the difference between winning or losing a lawsuit."

While Wohlfeil said some of his colleagues conduct informal discovery conferences, he opts for handling the motions in his courtroom.
