MOJAVE — The reasons for going to trial have changed a lot since Judge Bryan K. Stainfield’s early days as a prosecutor in the mid-1980s.

“We would go to trial because I wanted five days on a DUI and the defense was offering two days,” he said. “We’d go to trial over that. That’s something that would never go to trial now.”
