VAN NUYS — A graduate student was in Judge Alan K. Schneider’s courtroom for a monthlong drunken crime spree, including assault with a firearm and making criminal threats, but the defendant had no prior record.
“His mental health problems became much greater in his early 20s, which is fairly common, and he self-medicated, becoming a raging alcoholic,” Schneider said.
