Lungren served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989 and was elected attorney general of California, serving two terms from 1991 to 1999. He was then elected to serve another four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. During those terms, Lungren became chairman of the Committee on House Administration and chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure.
