On Feb. 21, 1995 at 9:00 p.m. on Highland Ave. in Rancho Cucamonga, defendant Carmen Martinez was driving a 1994 Toyota Tercel westbound on Highland Avenue approximately 4 car lengths behind plaintiff, Yi Sandy Liang. For unknown reason, defendant Marie Scaff, who was drving a 1973 Chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup, lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the westbound lanes in front of plaintiff Liang who was driving a 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage. Defendant Scaff and plaintiff's vehicles collided head on, and defendant Martinez subsequently rearended plaintff. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendants based on a negligence theory of recovery.
