Facts

In May 1995, plaintiff Deborah Rocha, a 45-year-old travel agent, was a neighbor of defendants Leonard and Sheri Arnoth. In November 1994, defendant Leonard Arnoth claimed that he had a sexual encounter with the plaintiff, which the plaintiff denied. The plaintiff alleged that the defendants then harassed and defamed her. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendants based on harassment and defamation theories of recovery.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff made a C.C.P. º998 settlement demand for $40,000, increased to $75,000 at trial. The defendants offered to settle for mutual dismissals and waiver of costs.

Other Information

The verdict was reached approximately one year and five months after the case was filed. MEDIATION: A mediation was held on Oct. 17, 1995. It did not resolve the matter.
