OnDec. 12, 1993, the decedent, the plaintiffs' 3-year-old daughter, was treated at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles for a seizure disorder for which she received the anticonvulsant Tegetrol. While on Tegetrol, the decedent developed a 12-day history of fever and rash. The plaintiffs also alleged a 12-day history of respiratory distress. On Jan. 31, 1994, the decedent was admitted to defendant Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The decedent died at the defendant hospital on Feb. 17, 1994, following an 18-day admission. The plaintiffs brought this action against the defendant based on medical negligence theories of recovery.
