Facts

On Aug. 25, 1993, the plaintiff, a 55-year-old unemployed woman, was involved in a multi-vehicle accident with the defendant. The plaintiff contended that the defendant's car rear-ended one, car causing it to rear-end her vehicle, which resulted in a five-vehicle rear-end pileup. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on negligence theories of recovery.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff made a C.C.P. º998 settlement demand for $80,000. The defendant made a C.C.P. º998 offer of compromise for $60,000.
