Tamar Larsen and Aran Eisenstat filed a class action against Trader Joe's Inc., based on allegations that it had mislabeled its products.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Larsen and Eisenstat argued that Trader Joe's misbranded many of its products as "All Natural" or "100 [percent] Natural," despite the fact that they actually included synthetic components. These products included Joe-Joe's Chocolate Vanilla Creme Cookies, Joe-Joe's Chocolate Sandwich Creme Cookies, Buttermilk Biscuits, Trader Giotto's 100 percent Natural Fat Free Ricotta Cheese, Trader Joe's Fresh Pressed Apple Juice, and Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls. The synthetic components included ascorbic acid, cocoa processed with alkali, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium citrate, xanthan gum, and vegetable digylcerides.
Result
The parties settled for $3,375,000.
