On August 17, 1992, Plaintiff Janet Poehlman, a 41-year-old cashier underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by Defendant Dr. Richard Zahn, a general surgeon. During the procedure, Plaintiff's right common iliac artery was lacerated. The procedure was converted to an open surgery and the artery was repaired. Thereafter, the diseased gallbladder was removed.
