On Jan. 2, 1999, plaintiff, a 16-year-old
student, and three friends, were
shopping in the RobinsonÆ May store in
Oxnard. Surveillance camera
observation caused store security to
suspect shoplifting.
Plaintiff was detained as he left the
store. A struggle ensued. Plaintiff was
subdued and kept handcuffed for two
hours, before being taken to the police
station by the Oxnard police.

Injuries

INJURIES: The plaintiff sustained bruises from the scuffle during the arrest, and also suffered emotional distress.
