Facts

Plaintiff Matthew Sunner, a former laborer for defendants, brought a class action on behalf of 60 construction workers alleging that defendants did not pay laborers for all hours they worked, among other wage and hour violations.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs were forced to attend weekly safety meetings and to pick up supplies at the store without compensation. Plaintiff alleged that defendants violated California's wage and hour laws by requiring laborers to perform unpaid work.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendants denied that they violated the law.

Damages

According to defense, plaintiff's estimated settlement class' total damages were approximately $1.3 million.

Result

The case settled for $297,000, which was approved by the court. The court also approved a $10,000 incentive award to the named plaintiff.
