Facts

On May 20, 1991, Jose Cardenas, a 24-year-old farm worker, was cultivating an alfalfa field near Blythe. His tractor contacted Defendant Southern California Edison's utility pole Number 59823. An overhead crossarm split, the 69 KV conductor went to the ground and contacted Mr. Cardenas, and Mr. Cardenas was killed. Plaintiffs were Patricia Cardenas, decedent's wife, and the couple's 2 minor sons.
