Facts
The case results from an incident which allegedly occurred at The Galleria at South Bay on July
11, 2001. At that time, the plaintiffs, Celeste Jordan and Floyd Jones, were proceeding from the
second to the third floor of the Galleria via the escalator. The plaintiffs claimed that they were
walking up the escalator using it as a staircase, as the escalator was not running. The plaintiffs
maintained that when they arrived at the top, a security guard suddenly turned on the escalator
causing them to trip and sustain injuries.

Injuries
Plaintiff Floyd Jones went to Centinela Hospital by ambulance, following the incident, and received an examination and x-rays and prescribed medication. He received treatment from a chiropractor at Crenshaw Industrial Clinic. Plaintiff Celeste Jordan claimed that she had difficulty at childbirth necessitating a C-section due to back pain.
