Roberto Crea worked as a post-doctoral research associate with the City of Hope from 1977 to 1978, and performed scientific work in connection with a research collaboration between the City and Genentech.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Crea filed suit against the City of Hope, the City of Hope National Medical Center, and the Beckman Research Institute (collectively, the City), alleging breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and conversion. Crea contended the City owed him millions of dollars in royalty payments to the City.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The City filed a motion for summary judgment, contending the suit was barred by the statute of limitations and on contractual grounds.

Result

The court granted the City's motion for summary judgment.
